Long Island Center for Digestive Health (LICDH), LLC is a non-hospital based outpatient facility dedicated to providing the highest quality endoscopic and colonoscopic services in a comfortable atmosphere. LICDH is licensed by the New York State Department of Health and is Medicare Certified. It is also accredited by AAAHC (Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care).

Our staff wants to make your visit as pleasant as possible. At LICDH, patients receive quality care and then return to the comfort of their homes the very same day. It is our hope that you will find your visit to LICDH to be more personalized than a traditional hospital environment. In this reassuring setting, you will receive individual attention from a caring and highly skilled staff of doctors and nurses.

Respect for your individual needs and privacy is of our highest concern. You will be requested to complete a patient satisfaction survey at the conclusion of your visit, which will provide us with valuable feedback regarding your experience and help us to always stay focused upon continuous quality improvement.

PRIOR TO YOUR PROCEDURE

Please read your preparation instructions at least seven days prior to your procedure, and contact us should you have any questions.

Certain medications (aspirin, plavix, anti-inflammatory medications and coumadin, among others) may need to be discontinued one week prior to your procedure. Other medications (blood pressure medications, cardiac medications) should be taken with a sip of water on the morning of the procedure. If you have any questions regarding the administration of your medications prior to the procedure, please contact your gastroenterologist’s office.

Please let your gastroenterologist know if you have a pacemaker or defibrillator.

Please make arrangements for a family member or friend to drive you home after your procedure or it will be postponed.  You may not take a bus or taxi home unless accompanied by a responsible adult other than the driver.

DAY OF YOUR PROCEDURE

Please check in at the reception desk 30 minutes before your procedure is scheduled to begin.

Please bring your health insurance card.

Please bring a list of your medications and dosages you are currently taking.

It is very important for us to know if you have any allergies, especially an allergy to rubber (latex) products.

A nurse will ask you about your current and past health history, and review any questions you may have about your visit to LICDH.

If you have sleep apnea and use a CPAP machine, please bring it with you if you are scheduled for a colonoscopy.

If you think you might be pregnant, please bring this to the attention of the staff immediately.  Women of child-bearing years are often requested to submit a sample for a urine pregnancy test.

AFTER YOUR PROCEDURE

We would prefer your driver to stay in the immediate area during your procedure. If they do need to leave, we request that they will return to the center no later than 30 minutes after your scheduled procedure time. The average visit will be approximately 1½ to 2 hours.

Patients will remain in the recovery area until they are ready for discharge.

At your request, your escort will be asked to come to the consultation room to listen to your discharge instructions prior to your discharge.

It would be best if someone could stay with you at home or check on you following your procedure.
